It’s been quite a while coming, but the Mirus Hawk seating is ready for take-off. AirAsia is the launch customer for the Mirus Hawk. Update: Check out the reality in the new Airbus A321, latest aircraft in the AirAsa fleet.
Mirus Hawk seating
The new slimline seat combines the best of racing engineering in aircraft cabin innovation.
- The high-performance economy class seat is:
- made from carbon fibre and aluminium
- ergonomically optimised for comfort, passenger living space and style
- engineered for enhanced durability and reliability, and
- uses genuine leather upholstery
The seat is also lighter, which is expected to contribute to AirAsia’s ongoing commitment to low air fares and sustainable business practices. The weight saved reduces fuel consumption by 200 tonnes per aircraft per year, and helps lower CO2 emissions.
Mirus Hawk seats are assembled by Mirus Aircraft Seating at their state-of-the-art production facility in Norfolk, UK. Design and production of the seats applies Formula 1 engineering expertise and an automotive production philosophy.
What do they look like?
Since sign up in 2016 and after in-house testing in AirAsia’s RedQ Innovation Lab in 2017, the first seats we’ll see will be without some of the refinements included in the testing samples. However, there is hope, as AirAsia Group CEO and AirAsia X Co-Group CEO Tony Fernandes says:
…. This is just the beginning. More innovations are on the way, including a personal electronic device holder and high power 2A USB port so our guests can stay powered and connected as they enjoy our great inflight content. It really will be a true step-change in LCC passenger experience.
Having tried out the seat at their Innovation Lab we’re looking forward to trying them out in-flight, hopefully with the additional featured in place. The seat is certainly more comfortable and the extra legroom as a result of the slimline back is welcome.
Mirus CEO Phil Hall had this to offer:
…. This is a huge milestone for everyone at Mirus. We are at the start of our journey to reimagine aircraft seating and we are immensely proud to have our seats selected by and flying with AirAsia – a true innovator and market disruptor themselves.
