Santan Restaurant Sunway Pyramid opens 22nd July 2020, the AirAsia food outlet’s second on-ground location. The opening was preceded by a launch on 21st July, where Catherine Goh, Santan GM outlined Santan’s future plans.

Santan’s opened its first outlet at Mid Valley Megamall in the capital city in December 2019 to an overwhelming response. As the world’s first inflight F&B brand to open a restaurant on ground, AirAsia’s Santan restaurant established its credentials quickly, being well received by the local and international foodie community.

The arrival of Covid-19 and subsequent Movement Control Orders, made dining-in unavailable, causing a temporary setback to Santan’s plans. This development spurred Santan to implement a delivery service, which, in the initial stages, was limited to a 10km radius. Demand from areas outside the limit led to the setting up of a second Central Kitchen in Shah Alam.  Santan is also adding new kitchens in Cheras and Seri Kembangan.

Santan’s second Klang Valley outlet at the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre caters to the strong demand from surrounding areas. The outlet offers dine-in, takeaway and delivery options. The new outlet also offers opportunities to current AirAsia cabin and ground crew who are currently unable to do their normal jobs. Sunway was chosen as a result of high orders from Petaling Jaya and surrounding areas including Puchong and Subang.

To celebrate the new outlet opening, Santan is offering customers a limited-time promotion of two Combo Meals comprising one meal and a drink each for RM20. This offer is exclusively for dine in, take away and delivery orders at the new Sunway Pyramid outlet. Make your orders at santan.com.my between 22 July and 31st July 2020. Use the promo code SUNWAY.

Franchise Opportunities

In a roundtable discussion as part of the launch, Santan GM shared plans for future development of the brand. She outlined a target of 15 outlets in Klang Valley in the short term and further expansion within Malaysia and Asean in the longer term.

Santan is offering franchising opportunities to F&B entrepreneurs with a great value proposition. With a competitive franchise package, local entrepreneurs can benefit from a viable investment opportunity supported by AirAsia and its partners. Santan will provide continued support and training for all potential franchisees starting from the fourth quarter of this year.

In a challenging economic climate, the expansion allows Santan to create new job opportunities and rehire former airline industry employees. From diverse backgrounds like cabin crew and ground services, they receive re-skilling and retraining to serve Santan’s offline and online customers.

Other initiatives

Besides working with popular delivery partners, Santan also offers its own in-house delivery service supported by AirAsia’s growing F&B platform, OURFOOD. This allows franchisees more opportunities to increase profitability.

Santan is the inflight food and beverages (F&B) brand of AirAsia. Apart from freshly cooked dishes, Santan has also introduced its range of ready-to-eat frozen meals including signature items Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak and Nasi Padang with Beef Rendang. In addition, a new menu line up of Asean dishes and beverages includes favourite like Nasi Lemak Goreng with Ayam Goreng Berempah, Crispy Chicken Bites with Rempah Cheese sauce and Gado-gado.

Santan also supports local producers, sourcing fresh produce directly from local farmers and producers through OURFARM.

….. So when you dine in, take away or order your favourite Santan meal via delivery, you are directly helping our local communities. We look forward to welcoming everyone to our new outlet in Sunway Pyramid. Catherine Goh, General Manager of Santan
