Wellcamp Airport expands links to Sydney and Melbourne

by on March 15, 2017

Wellcamp Airport, the Darling Downs’ gateway to the world is adding more flights to their Arrivals and Departure Board these days with increases in Melbourne services. This gives Darling Downs and Toowoomba residents the opportunity to more easily visit Melbourne or Sydney directly for meetings, holidays or social events with a same day return if needed.

Increases in Melbourne services

Airnorth will add an additional three return flights to Melbourne from Wellcamp Airport as part of a new schedule designed to better suit business travellers.

TL MEL ScheduleThe new Melbourne services recently went on sale, offering early morning and afternoon flights to Melbourne on certain days. This will allow a quick day trip for meetings.

The new schedule takes effect from 8th May 2017 and is expected to prove popular with people working between the Darling Downs and Victoria.

In addition to the new Melbourne flights, Airnorth has also announced two seasonal services to North Queensland, following the strong demand for the services in 2016.

The extra Cairns and Townsville services will commence in June 2017, in time for the cool Toowoomba winter . They will continue through to September 2017.

All of the new services are currently on sale, available through the Airnorth website or via your preferred travel agent, with promotional specials starting from $139.

Head to Sydney for Vivid 29017

LIGHTS, CAMERA, VIVID!  The 2017 Sydney showcase of the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas is on again, starting 26th May. You’ll probably want to stay more than overnight to enjoy the festival, which features nearly two hundred light displays spread throughout the city. You’ll have more than two hundred chances to dance, sing or chill to local sounds over the four weeks of Vivid and more than three hundred idea sharing forums to choose from.

If the activities aren’t really your ‘thing’, perhaps you’d prefer to just wander and enjoy the famed Vivid Light Walk which starts on Alfred Street, behind Circular Quay. The walk takes you past many spectacular light art installations and large-scale illuminations as it heads along Sydney’s water front. This walk itself would be suitable for someone in a wheelchair, although there are exploring opportunities for the more agile along the way.

If you’re up to doing the full walk, the full itinerary  will allow you to plan your walk.

It’s a great starting point and an easy way to experience a little bit of everything the festival has to offer. Check out the full walk itinerary here. For all that’s on at VIVID, visit their website.

You can fly to Sydney from Wellcamp Airport with Qantaslink.

Getting to Wellcamp Airport will be easier soon

To drive to Wellcamp Airport at the time of writing, you need to travel either through Toowoomba or cut off the Warrego Highway at Charlton. You’ll drive through country roads to reach the Toowoomba-Cecil Plains road. The Toowoomba-Cecil Plains Rd will be more directly affected by on-going roadworks as work progresses on the Toowoomba Second Range Crossing.

This major road project is expected to be ready during 2018. Completion of the road will mean that it will be easier for travellers from the western Darling Downs, Lockyer Valley and south of the airport to reach Wellcamp.

As the roadwork may cause some delays, travellers are advised to check the Queensland Traffic website for any updates.

You can keep up with the ongoing development of the project on the Project website.
