Singapore Airlines and subsidiary SilkAir have signed a codeshare agreement with Indian domestic airline Vistara, giving more travel options to SIA and Vistara passengers. The agreement, to take effect from 14th March 2017, is surely something for a coup for the Indian carrier. It is Vistara’s first agreement with any other airline group and marks the Singapore Group’s first agreement with an Indian airline.

SIA and Vistara codeshare benefits to passengers

The agreement will add four new destinations to SIA Group’s India network. Bhubaneswar, Goa, Guwahati and Port Blair will join the fifteen destinations currently serviced from Singapore. As a result, Singapore Airlines passengers connecting to a Vistara flight through Mumbai or New Delhi will see the SQ designator code shown on their booking. These destinations will be Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Goa, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Kochi, Kolkata and Port Blair.

SilkAir passengers will see their ‘MI’ designator code shown on Vistara-operated connecting flights through Bengaluru and Kolkata to Guwahati, Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai, New Delhi and Port Blair.

For Frequent Fliers

Frequent flyers of both SIA and Vistara stand to benefit from the agreement. KrisFlyer and Club Vistara members will enjoy additional tier benefits as a result of the new codeshare partnership.

  • PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members will enjoy lounge access and increased baggage allowance.  They’ll also have priority baggage handling, check-in and boarding when travelling on Vistara-operated flights.
  • Club Vistara Platinum and Gold members will enjoy the same benefits when travelling on SIA operated flights.
  • PPS Club and KrisFlyer members will earn Elite miles when travelling on SIA codeshare flights operated by Vistara.
  • The enhancement in membership benefits is over and above existing benefits. This enables members of both frequent flyer programmes to earn miles when travelling on both SIA and Vistara operated flights. KrisFlyer members can also redeem their miles for Vistara flights, and vice versa.

Vistara is a New Delhi-based joint venture between Tata Sons and SIA. The airline marked its second anniversary of operations on 9th January 2017.

The new codeshare flights will be made available through SIA’s and SilkAir’s various booking channels. You can also book directly through Singaporeairlines.com or SilkAir.com
