Star Wars takes to the sky with ANA

If you’re a Star Wars fan, turn your eyes to the sky from mid-October and you just may see R2-D2 flying over. If you’re in the right place at the right time of course! We’ll tell you where and even how you can be part of the experience on the inside if the fancy takes you.

All Nippon Airways (ANA) has unveiled two new Star Wars-themed special liveries, the first of which rolled out of the paint hangar in Seattle on Saturday,12th September on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner painted in R2-D2 livery.

This will soon be joined by two more aircraft, a Boeing 777-300ER as the new droid BB-8 and a Boeing 767-300 with R2-D2 on one side and BB-8 on the other. See the beautiful birds in flight.

If you’d like to follow the first flight of the R2-D2 787 which is a Fan Appreciation Flight on Saturday 17th October 2015, you can track it on FlightRadar24 – use the Registration number to find it – JA873A.

After the Fan Appreciation Flight, R2-D2 ANA JET is scheduled to go into service on international routes with the first flight NH116  from Tokyo to Vancouver on 18th October 2015. The R2-D2 jet will then make its way to other international ANA destinations including Seattle and San Jose in the United States, Munich, Paris and Brussels in Europe, Sydney in Australia, Beijing in China and Jakarta, Indonesia.

ANA has also released tentative route information and approximate dates for the R2-D2 787 flights.

Mid-October to Late-November: Narita—San Jose (NH172)
Early-December: Narita—Seattle (NH178)
Mid-December and beyond: Haneda—Sydney (NH879), Haneda—Jakarta (NH855), Haneda—Beijing, Haneda—Munich (NH217), Haneda—Paris (NH215)
