Have you ever joined an Instameet? Do you know what it is?

First – What is an Instameet?

An Instameet is where people gather in a pre-determined place, at a set time, to take photos and upload them to Instagram. This is a phenomenon that was created organically by the Instagram community and now occurs regularly across the world.

What’s the occasion?

In celebration of 95 years of flying, Qantas is hosting its first and one of Australia’s largest series of Instameets to capture what #FeelsLikeHome to different Australians and promote Australia on Instagram.

Who’s organising the events?

The event is being organised by Qantas and Instagram and hosted by well-known Australian photographers on Instagram, 18 Instagram meet ups (Instameets) will span nine different cities over nine days, capturing Australia’s iconic sights, people and activities through original and inspirational images.

Where will the events be held?

Each city will host two events and Instagrammers are encouraged to register online now, as places are limited for some events. Click on your city on the interactive map at the bottom of this page for more details and the Registration tabs.

7th November, 11 am. Meet at Esplanade Park, Fremantle for a walkabout before joining the ferry organised to take those who’ve registered to Rottnest to ‘catch’ a Qokka.

8th November, 11 am. Meet at Reddacliff Place (Brisbane Square, in front of the Casino). After the walkabout, registered participants get to go to the Gabba and take some snaps with the Aussie cricket trem playing against the Kiwis.

9th November, 4.30 pm. Meet at Outback Pioneer Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort. Both the activities here are strictly limited, so register early. One of them is a camel ride – how good is that?

10th November, 11 am. Take the day off for this one – Meet at Ether Lawns, MONA for a look around the Museum of Old and New Art and if you’d like to join the ferry ride on the Derwent, get your registration in early.

11th November, 5.30 pm. Turn up at Mindil Beach to shoot the sand, sea and sunset, and if you’d like to catch the organised coach out to Berry Springs Nature Park earlier in the day, get cracking and register.

12th November, 4 pm. Meet at Nishi Gallery, New Acton Canberra. This one’s open to everyone, so just turn up and take a walk with your camera through the parklands and buildings of the Capital.

13th November, 5 pm. Meet at St Pauls Court, Federation Square. After a walkabout through the interesting streets and lanes, share your photos and a Friday evening drink with all the new friends you’ve made. Open to all.

14th November, 11 am. Meet at Rymill Park, East Parklands, Adelaide. Both the activities are restricted – 14 and 90 participants for a EcoCaddy ride or a trip round the Barossa Valley. What a choice, so get in fast and register.
15th November, 12.30 pm. Meet at Hickson Road Reserve, The Rocks in Sydney, at the foot of the Harbour Bridge. It’s open to all to explore, but a limited number will be able to register for a ferry ride or bus to Bondi and everyone can join in the party in the evening with live music and a Qantas A330 aircraft fly over.

Can’t make any of these?

Hold your own – details are in this downloadable Information Pack.

Who can join and how can I sign up?

Open to all social media enthusiasts – it doesn’t matter if you have 10 or 10,000 followers, Qantas wants everyone to get involved in their local area and share an image of what #FeelsLikeHome means to them.

So what are you waiting for? Get more information about the Qantas Instameet series and register at their dedicated page as soon as possible so you don’t miss out.
