In Search of Home

‘In Search of Home’ is the theme of a refugee awareness event organised by the AirAsia Foundation on Thursday 22nd November at AirAsia’s headquarters, RedQ, klia2. The event, running from 4pm-8pm highlights the innovative ways social enterprises have helped improve the livelihood of refugees in Malaysia. If you celebrate Christmas, this is a good place to start your Christmas shopping.

Entry is by ticket:  RM60   (Students: RM30)

RedQ offers AirAsia staff (the Allstars) a unique office environment and work culture. The office is seldom open to the public, but visitors will get a sneak peek and a guided tour this Thursday.

The afternoon’s Programme

Throughout the event, visitors will have a chance to speak with refugees and hear their stories. Imagine what it would be like to leave home suddenly and not know when you can return.

16:00 Welcome to Our Home

Visitors will start the day’s programme with a RedQ tour by the staff Culture experts. Learn more about the facilities and initiatives that make AirAsia one of the top Asean companies to work for.

17:00 Care-giving at the World’s Largest Refugee Camp

AirAsia has been sponsoring flights for doctors volunteering with IMARET, under the Islamic Medical Association of Malaysia, at the Rohingya refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh. IMARET coordinator Dr Munawwar Salim shares his experience serving some
of the most vulnerable refugees.

17:20 Home Away from Home

Afghan refugee Nahid Kazemi shares how she and her husband overcame challenges to start Nazanin.  Their social enterprise label has built a new livelihood for their family and fellow refugees.

17:30 Screaming in Silence

Parastoo Theatre presents an original play about Nazanin, a 12-year-old Afghan girl forced into marriage by her family and community. This drama is written and directed by Saleh Sepas, translated by Zabihillah Hosseini and produced by Azizullah Mohammadi.

19:00 A Taste of Home

Get to know Malaysia’s refugee communities through their home-cooked meals. Award-winning social enterprise The Picha Project presents a menu of delectable Syrian, Palestinian and Iraqi dishes, guaranteed to make you return for seconds.

Throughout the Event – Pieces of Home

  • A  UNHCR sponsored exhibit of photographs.

    • Fifteen refugees give us a glimpse of their world through the things they treasure most from their previous lives. ‘Pieces of Home’ will be on display at RedQ Atrium from 22nd – 30th November.  2018.

Keep right and follow the signs to Tune Hotel at klia2. Pass the hotel and turn left at the T junction after you pass under the bridge. You can’t miss the RedQ building!
