AirAsia has launched their new ‘One click and chill’, an upgrade to their WiFi service offering passengers faster inflight wifi. The upgrade will be offered on AirAsia’s aircraft equipped with Inmarsat’s high-speed Ka-band platform, GX Aviation. The services, powered by ROKKI provide high-speed inflight connectivity to passengers.

Faster inflight wifi availability

Initial roll-out of the upgrade is now available on six aircraft operated by AirAsia Malaysia (carrier code AK) and two aircraft operated by AirAsia Thailand (carrier code FD). The upgrades will be rolled across the rest of the fleet by the end of 2020.

GX Aviation is the world’s first inflight broadband solution with reliable, seamless high-speed global coverage provided through a single operator. Ka-band offers enhanced inflight entertainment and connectivity (IFEC) experience beyond basic broadband, supporting real-time video, music streaming and more.

Free access this September

AirAsia is offering guests travelling on GX Aviation-equipped aircraft a free 10MB trial of the new service throughout September.

AirAsia WiFi is an IFEC platform offering passengers free entertainment, music, games, news and shopping. Look out for the AirAsia WiFi-enabled aircraft to experience the future of inflight wifi. Connect for free via your personal mobile device to access their free content. Pre-purchase a wi-fi internet plan to ensure you’re ready to go. Click on the pull-out tab on the left to see if your flight is using a wifi enabled aircraft.

Speaking at the upgrade launch, AirAsia Group President (RedBeat Ventures) Aireen Omar says AirAsia continues to redefine their passengers’ digital inflight experience. Ka-band, powered by ROKKI, is the next logical step in this process. She added that passengers can

…… stay connected throughout their journey and perform data-intensive activities, including live streaming. This also enables better real-time analytics, allowing us to serve up more personalised services to AirAsia’s 100 million guests annually.

Inmarsat Aviation President Philip Balaam concurred with these comments, calling AirAsia’s launch of GX Aviation services a significant milestone. His comments about the roll-out and mention of A330 aircraft are welcome.

…. We are confident that their upgrade from basic connectivity to the industry’s gold standard inflight broadband will be warmly embraced by passengers. Our teams continue to work closely together to install GX Aviation on the rest of AirAsia’s fleet of Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft, making it available to millions of new passengers each month.
