The AirAsia Group is increasing services to Maldives in response to strong demand on the route. This has been especially from passengers potentially using the airline’s Fly-Thru service at klia2 in Kuala Lumpur. The additional four services weekly will be operated by long-haul affiliate AirAsia X, supplementing the current daily AirAsia flights.

AirAsia X’s Kuala Lumpur-Malé D7 coded service will use their Airbus A330-300 aircraft, adding an extra 156,000 seats annually. Flights are due to start on 6th February 2018.

Promo fares on services to Maldives

Introductory promotional fares starting from RM199* are available on airasia.com for all Maldives flights until 14th January 2018. Travel period is up to 6th May 2018. * Promotional all-in fare for one-way travel, inclusive of taxes. Terms and conditions apply.

From 6th February, passengers flying AirAsia X can also book a Premium Flatbed from only RM699* as part of the promotion. A Premium Flatbed seat comes with complimentary products and services including:

  • unlimited flight changes
  • Pick A Seat
  • Priority Check-in, Boarding and Baggage
  • immigration fast track at selected airports
  • 40kg Baggage Allowance
  • Complimentary Meal and drinks
  • Pillow and Duvet
  • Xcite inflight entertainment and
  • Premium Red Lounge access at klia2.

The additional AirAsia X service offer AirAsia’s more flight options and better connectivity to Maldives for travellers from destinations other than Malaysia.  The timing will suit passengers coming from cities with an early morning arrival in klia2 who want to use the airline’s Fly-Thru service in Kuala Lumpur.

Daily services on the existing AirAsia schedule (AK73/73) use the airline’s Airbus A320 aircraft with 180 and 186-seat capacity.

This is the second increase in services to Malé from Kuala Lumpur.

…… As the only airline servicing direct flights to Maldives from Kuala Lumpur, our short-haul affiliate AirAsia has seen tremendous growth on this route since its commencement, adding over 130 percent seat capacity early last year when flight frequency was increased from three to seven flights weekly. ……. Despite this increased capacity, we continue to see robust demand from our wide network and we hope that with this additional service offering a larger capacity on our A330 aircraft, we will be able to capture this demand and further build our market dominance in the Maldives.
