Kunming, the ‘City of Eternal Spring’ in China’s Southwest Yunnan province is AirAsia’s latest destination from Sabah. Four times weekly direct flights between Kota Kinabalu and Kunming commence 30th November 2018. This new route marks the AirAsia Group’s fourth route into Yunnan’s capital after flights from Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, and Bangkok and Phuket in Thailand. It is AirAsia’s 10th international route from its Kota Kinabalu hub.
Kunming is famous for the huge flower market, somewhere no visitor should miss.

He added that AirAsia had added three new destinations from Kota Kinabalu in 2018, to Bangkok, Macao and now Kunming. The airline is also doubling flights from Kota Kinabalu to Shenzhen from 1st November 2018.

Kunming has long been an important city in Southwest China for its closeness to Tibet and many South East Asian countries. As such it’s well positioned to become an important hub for the One Belt, One Road initiative, providing new trading and export opportunities between China, Asean and South Asia.
Things to do in Kunming
Apart from the pleasant year round weather, there’s lots to see and do in and around the city. Easy day trips can be made to see the limestone formations in Shilin (Stone Forest), a UNESCO World Heritage site and the Jiu Xiang Cave. You can visit the Lufeng Dinosaur Museum in Chuxiong to see hundreds of dinosaurs in the excavations, or ride the cable car up to Western Hill Dragon Gate to touch the ‘lucky’ arch. Morning is a great time to join the locals for exercise in the many parks including Green Lake Park. This park is famous for its thousands of seagulls despite being far inland.
