Santan specialty coffee and plant-based Nasi Lemak are the latest offerings on the AirAsia Malaysia in-flight menu. After a short lived experiment with their ‘Barista on Board’ some years ago, they’ve done some innovating and come up with a new way to enjoy your coffee. This won’t involve fitting the aircraft with an espresso machine or ensuring that it’s always staffed with a barista.

AirAsia’s Santan is well known for its innovative menu which offers some core staples across the group while adding local favourites in each. The in-flight menu offers a selection of what’s available for dine-in or delivery in the Klang Valley, Malaysia.

The new menu items, first-of-its-kind freeze-dried specialty coffee and a tasty plant-based Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak, will be available onboard AirAsia and AirAsia X flights. The Santan 92′ Signature Blend is crafted by Santan’s champion roaster earning an impressive 92-point rating from the Coffee Review, the World’s Leading Coffee Guide.

This specialty coffee is available as a classic Americano, Caffe Latte, and a flavourful Caffe Mocha, hot or cold. As part of the airline’s commitment to sustainability, the coffee beans are sourced sustainably from Guatemala, Brazil, and Indonesia, offering both quality and taste.

In line with this initiative, Santan embraces more plant-based options with its new version of Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak. The signature dish with a plant-based twist features a generous serving of wild purple rice, complemented by a flavourful vegetarian curry. These are crafted with plant-based protein, eggplant, French beans, and potatoes. Topped with onion sambal, crunchy peanuts, and coconut strips, this offering is almost guilt-free.

…. We are thrilled to continue to revolutionise the in-flight dining experience with the introduction of Santan 92′ Signature Blend, our innovative specialty coffee, and the appetising plant-based Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak. Santan General Manager, Catherine Goh

She added that Santan serves nearly 1 million cups of coffee in an average year and sold about 29 million nasi lemak across AirAsia’s 130 destinations. They now forward to  serving millions more AirAsia’s passengers with the world’s finest coffee beans in the skies, to meet the rising demand for innovative and sustainable dining choices.

So what does it taste like?

We have an overnight flight coming up soon, so I’ll be changing my meal order to add one of each of these new offerings. Let’s see if the Santan 92′ Signature Blend lives up to the claim that it’s innovated with Santan’s very own SuperCooling-extraction technology to retain the exquisite taste and aroma of world leading specialty coffee.

If it’s really …….

free from additives, a blend surpassing traditional instant coffee and pods, ensuring a perfect cup at any altitude and temperature, perfect to warm up in a cool cabin or over ice as a pick-me-up during any flight

you can be sure I’ll be back for more on my return flight.
