Johor Bahru’s RTS Link ICQC complex will open with Seamless Indoor 5G Connectivity thanks to the formalisation of a strategic partnership through the signing of an MOU between  Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) and  Malaysia Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp)  on 20th October 2026. This enables the deployment of indoor 5G connectivity at the RTS Link ICQC (Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link Immigration, Customs, Quarantine and Security Complex (ICQC)).

RTS Link ICQC coverage – the benefits

The collaboration recognises the need for reliable digital connectivity, which is now an essential part of everyday life, enabling passengers to stay connected as they move through the station and immigration facilities. Commuters will enjoy reliable, high-quality connectivity while using digital services such as ticketing, navigation, communications and mobile transactions.

The RTS Link will be Malaysia’s first cross-border metro rail link connecting Johor Bahru and Singapore and is expected to serve as a major transportation corridor for commuters, business travellers and visitors. The initiative also demonstrates how 5G can be integrated into major public infrastructure to enhance passenger experience and support smarter transportation ecosystems.

Through its subsidiary, Malaysia Rapid Transit System Sdn Bhd (MRTS), MRT Corp, which also owns the MRT Lines in the Klang Valley, is responsible for developing and owning the Malaysian infrastructure for the RTS Link, including the in-building telecommunications infrastructure at the Bukit Chagar ICQC. They are also a licensed Network Facilities Provider under the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC). MRT Corp intends to commercialise these facilities through infrastructure leasing and the rental of telecommunications space to mobile network operators.

The partnership also establishes a framework for future indoor connectivity deployments in high-traffic locations, leveraging DNB’s nationwide 5G infrastructure and collaboration with its mobile network operator shareholders. The RTS Link ICQC deployment marks an important step towards creating smarter, more connected environments that support economic growth, mobility and digital transformation.
