Batik Air Malaysia continues to strengthen its presence in Subang Airport (SZB) ( Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport)with three new direct services to Miri (MYY), Sibu (SBW) and Bali (DPS), further expanding Subang’s connectivity to East Malaysia and international destinations. In addition to the new Subang-Bali route, the new Penang–Batam service, with its inaugural flight on 18th October 2026, strengthens the airline’s connectivity from northern Malaysia to the Riau Islands. Malaysia accounted for 188,713 visits out of 738,186 international visitor arrivals into Batam recorded in the first six months of 2025, making it the second-largest source during the period. This route will operate three times weekly, complementing Batik Air’s existing seven times weekly KLIA service.
Batik Air’s presence in Subang Airport
Since their beginning as Malindo Air, the airline operated their ATR 72 aircraft out of Subang and though those are no longer in use, the introduction of jet services at Subang continued their presence as Batik Air. The new services will give travellers more choices to fly directly from Subang, expanding Batik Air’s existing international services from the airport and providing a convenient alternative to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) for travellers.
Batik Air will operate three weekly services from Subang to Miri and Sibu from 1st December 2026, connecting the Klang Valley directly with two of Sarawak’s key cities. The Subang–Bali service commences 2nd December 2026, offering four weekly flights to one of Indonesia’s most popular leisure destinations. This complements the airline’s existing 35 weekly services out of KLIA T1.
The new East Malaysia services have been introduced in response to the strong travel and business links between Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak. Miri, an important centre for the energy and services sectors, attracts both business and leisure travellers as well as visitors travelling for family reasons. Similarly, Sibu, a key commercial centre in central Sarawak, interests the same general types of travellers.
For leisure travellers, Bali provides a popular international option from Subang, particularly for the Greater Klang Valley population of approximately nine million. The direct service offers a more convenient near city-centre departure point for holidaymakers, providing an alternative to travelling to KLIA while giving travellers greater flexibility when planning their trips.
Batik Air CEO, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy, said Subang has strong potential to develop as a convenient gateway for travellers in the Klang Valley, with the airline continuing to support efforts to revitalise and strengthen the airport’s role in Malaysia’s aviation network.
…. Subang has an important place in the future of travel in the Klang Valley. As the airport continues to evolve, we see an opportunity to give travellers more choices by connecting them directly to destinations that matter for business, family and leisure travel.
The addition of Miri, Sibu and Bali has expanded Batik Air’s network from Subang. The airline already connects travellers to destinations including Bangkok, Singapore, Jakarta, Penang, Kuching, Kota Kinabalu, Kota Bharu, Johor Bahru and Langkawi. In addition, the expanded network further strengthens Subang’s role as a convenient gateway for travellers in the Klang Valley, supporting greater connectivity between Peninsular Malaysia, East Malaysia and regional destinations.
