Asia’s top Low-Cost airline

AirAsia has been recognised as Asia’s top Low-Cost airline for the thirteenth time at the World Travel Awards Asia and Oceania 2025 ceremony in Hong Kong. They also collected the trophy for their award as Asia’s Leading Low-Cost Airline Cabin Crew for the ninth consecutive year. For more than three decades, the World Travel Awards has set the benchmark for excellence in global travel and tourism. Winners are determined via a voting process that includes travel-industry professionals as well as votes from consumers worldwide.

Growing their reach as a top low cost airline

AirAsia has flown close to one billion guests since its inception and they’ve just announced their end of year sale with some great fares available across their network of over 130 destinations across Asia, Australia and beyond. They also have plans to further expand into new growth corridors in the Middle East and Central Asia. This fits with their ambition to become the world’s leading low-cost network carrier.

Promo fares available now

Here’s your best chance to lock in your travel plans for next year, with tickets out of Kuala Lumpur to various destinations available at 99% off the base fare until 19th October, for travel between 1st March and 30th November 2026. If you’re looking for dates after that period, you’ll have your chance in their next big sale period in early 2026. The base fare includes all fees and taxes, which are itemised, you can check these when you select your dates. You’ll also get 7kg carry on baggage, but checked baggage, seat selection and meals are add-ons.

AirAsia Malaysia uses Airbus A320 aircraft to cover domestic  (try Kuching, from RM88, all-in one-way) and nearby regional routes like Phnom Penh, from RM179, all-in one-way or Perth, from RM334, all-in one-way. AirAsia X Malaysia covers the longer haul routes on the network using their Airbus 330 aircraft. Apart from their economy flights, they also have a premium flatbed section which bundles your seat with luggage, seat selection and meals. During this sale, you can pick up a 20% discount on Premium Flatbed tickets.

When you purchase your tickets it’s always cheaper to do your add-ons at the same time, as the price is different if you do it later. You can also save more by taking a Value Pack, which includes your (standard) seat selection, a meal, baggage and insurance. This bundle will always come to less than purchasing them individually. Save more during the promotion by booking them together when you purchase your ticket and get up to 50% off.

From Booking to Boarding

AirAsia used the Covid downturn to develop a highly digital ecosystem via the AirAsia MOVE app, a one-stop travel platform where travellers can book flights, manage trips, enjoy seamless self-check-in and experience contactless boarding. They have also introduced  their Auto Visa Check to further simplify the process.

Auto Visa Check (AVC) is a feature in the AirAsia MOVE app and on its website that lets you automatically verify your visa during online check-in by scanning your passport’s visa sticker or uploading an e-visa. This can generate an e-boarding pass instantly, allowing travellers without checked bags to go directly to the gate. The service is primarily for travellers with multiple-entry visas. A Multiple Entry Visa for Malaysia allows multiple entries for one (1) year, but other countries may have different offerings, which are generally for non-tourism purposes. We tested this to see if it worked for an Australian ETA, but our efforts were unsuccessful.

If you have such a visa, this is how to use the Auto Visa Check feature

  1. Open the app or website: Launch the AirAsia MOVE app or go to airasia.com.
  2. Select your flight: Choose your flight for check-in.
  3. Scan or upload your visa: When prompted, use your phone’s camera to scan the visa sticker in your passport or upload a photo of your e-visa.
  4. Get your e-boarding pass: Once the visa is verified, you will receive your electronic boarding pass instantly.

For Asia’s top low cost airline, this recognition by the World Travel Awards Asia and Oceania, reaffirms AirAsia’s leadership in shaping the future of low-cost travel.
