Fly-thru from Sydney in Kuala Lumpur as AirAsia X (AAX) returns to the route twice weekly from 9th September 2022. Although the airline has offered limited services in the past year, these have been limited to repatriation flights or cargo flights. AirAsia X celebrated the return of services from Sydney and welcomed flight D7220 to Kuala Lumpur on 9th September with a traditional water salute. The receiving event marked the official recommencement of its commercial services to/from Australia after a two year hiatus caused by the pandemic.
Fly-thru from Sydney
As the network expands, travellers can connect through to other international destinations in South East Asia and the sub continent. Domestic connections are also available as both AirAsia Malaysia and AirAsia X share the same hub at Kuala Lumpur International Airport klia2.
You can fly-thru from Sydney and Auckland as well when the twice-weekly service connects to Auckland, New Zealand from 7th November this year with plans to gradually increase the service to daily by the first quarter of next year to meet strong pent-up demand. AirAsia X is also resuming direct services to Melbourne and Perth commencing early November.

CEO of AirAsia X, Benyamin Ismail says the airline is continuing to review their network, to cater to the increasing demand in their core markets with additional new season services added to the schedule in the near future.

Australia has always been a key market for the AirAsia X Group. Thai AirAsia X, the affiliate long haul sister airline of AirAsia X, has also recently announced new direct services from Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) to Melbourne and Sydney for the first time, commencing 1st and 2nd December 2022.
