Tourism Western Australia (TWA) has recently signed marketing agreements with two major regional airlines to grow traveller numbers into the State. Two recent marketing agreements signed between the tourism body and the airlines promise to see tourist numbers rise significantly from South East Asia and beyond.
Tourism Western Australia Agreements
Both Singapore Airlines and AirAsia airline groups bring complementary benefits to the table.
AirAsia Group
While AirAsia is a low cost airline, it has over 130 routes in its mostly regional network. The Group has airlines in a number of ASEAN countries and Japan. AirAsia X is their international airline. Western Australia is in the same, or similar time zone to most of their destinations and travellers through Kuala Lumpur can easily transfer via their fly-thru option.
In their statement issued 3rd July 2019, the airline identified plans to carry more holidaymakers to Western Australia. The AU$1 million funding is part of the Western Australian State Government’s A$12 million International Marketing fund.
The AirAsia partnership includes:
- Joint marketing campaigns to promote Western Australia’s tourism highlights
- These will be focussed Malaysia, India, China and Japan
- The Malaysian campaign alone is expected to generate more than 29,000 visitors
- A focus on stimulating affordable air travel to Perth, Western Australia including
- print, television, radio, cinema and online advertising
- offer fares and promotions
Promotional Fares
In conjunction with the announcement, AirAsia is offering all-in, one-way fares from RM299* on standard seats for flights between Kuala Lumpur and Perth. Singapore Airlines Group
Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Tourism Western Australia signed their cooperative marketing agreement on 1st July 2019. The AU$5 million three-year agreement to promote tourism to Western Australia will focus on 10 key international markets. These include China, Germany/Switzerland, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, the UK and US.
Singapore Airlines has a strong presence in Perth and has been a close partner with Tourism Western Australia for 20 years. The airline has operated flights to Australia for over 5 decades and now offers 28 weekly services to Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Low cost subsidiary Scoot operates 9 weekly services to Perth.
