Tangalooma Laughs

One of the great places to visit near Brisbane, Queensland, is the old whaling station and beautiful beaches of Tangalooma, Moreton Island. Long a ‘must visit’ place for those who’ve enjoyed diving around the shallow wrecks, in position for over 50 years before they were cut down in November 2015, there’s now something extra to attract visitors to this great spot as Tangalooma gets ready for ‘Tangalooma Laughs’.

A Great new Comedy Festival

Tangalooma Island Resort will be presenting the inaugural Tangalooma Laughs Comedy Festival on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th May 2016. Some of the comedians include great Australian acts like the hilariously raw Greg Fleet, the sharp-witted Chris Wainhouse with guest appearances by household name Mike Goldman, former host of Big Brother, Joker Poker and actor on the hugely popular Slide on Fox 8.

This is not an event for the kids though, as entry to the shows after 8pm is open to over 18s only. However, from midday on Saturday 14th, a free of charge, all ages comedy performance will feature comedians Chris Wainhouse, Rob Brown, Mike Goldstein & Steve Allison, as well as emerging local comedy talent for all to enjoy.

**PS – remember to have your ID ready for the evening shows to prove you’re old enough!

…. Where else in the world can you take in the beauty of a Queensland island, a belly full of laughs and one of a kind island experiences! It’s such an exciting event concept for the resort and we’re really excited to get our guests involved in the experience. To make it easy and simple we have included tickets to the inaugural event in selected accommodation packages purchased on the 13th and the 14th May. Having tickets included in the overnight package has made the proposition very attractive and very affordable for guests. We’re expecting a large turnout and the atmosphere will be electric. We have a P&O cruise ship docking on the Saturday and everyone is just so excited to check it out. We are also noticing that larger groups are booking for this weekend, renting out whole villas and houses as well as their comedy tickets so they can get involved with the festivities and really make a weekend of it.  Ben Forbes, Marketing Manager, Tangalooma Island Resort

How can I join in?

If you already have accommodation booked at the resort  on the 13th and 14th, you can purchase tickets for $40 per person per night on the Tangalooma website, through the Tangalooma call centre (1300 652 250) or at the resort reception upon arrival. You can also find out more about the festival and comedians as well as other available offers.

Accommodation packages for the Tangalooma Laughs Comedy Festival start from $199 per night, for up to four adults and include two complimentary tickets to the festival and selected free resort activities including the iconic sunset wild dolphin feeding.

Extra tickets can be purchased for $25 per person when attached to a festival accommodation package.

How do I get there?

The trip to Tangalooma Island Resort takes about 75 minute from Brisbane depending on your choice of carrier.  You can catch a passenger only launch departing from Holt Street Wharf in Pinkenba or you could catch one of the passenger/vehicular ferries which leave from Whyte Island at the Mouth of the Brisbane River or the Amity Trader which will take you from Victoria Point to south Moreton Island.

What else can I do on Moreton Island?

Visit the pod of wild bottlenose dolphins who can be hand fed near the resort jetty and while you’re there, find out more about the island’s dark past as a whaling station. You can go sand tobogganing or spend an hour or so on a Quad bike tour.  Or if you just want to relax, go swimming around the remains of the wrecks or just lie on the beach in the sun.
