Despite the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on travel and our lives in general, AirAsia has been busy consolidating its Group brands. Santan is the world’s first restaurant brand to offer inflight food on the ground and today they celebrate the first anniversary of their first restaurant.

Santan offer celebrates One Year

Santan has grabbed the opportunity to grow their on-ground presence, achieving a number of major milestones

These include:

    • six new outlets established in Klang Valley
    • three cloud kitchens
  • Launched Santan Food
    • T&Co rebranded to Santan Cafe
  • Delivery service increased to 80%,
    • sold over 385,000 meals in a year

Following the official franchise certificate awarded by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) in September, Santan has established five new franchise outlets in the Klang Valley. These are in addition to the outlets at Mid Valley and Sunway Pyramid Two additional outlets are planned to open before the end of 2020. Three cloud kitchens have been established in Cheras, Shah Alam and Sri Kembangan to further cater to the rising delivery service demand in the Klang Valley.

Since the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was implemented in November, Santan has seen an 80% growth in its delivery service. This compares to 40% during the MCO (March – May 2020). Over 385,000 total meals were sold throughout the year, including its popular Ready-to-Eat range.

Santan franchise business gives young entrepreneurs a launchpad to start their career in the F&B industry and continues to support local communities and SMEs across Malaysia. The Buy Malaysian Products campaign, launched as part of ‘Santan Food’ in September, is a specially curated space at its flagship outlet in Mid Valley Megamall. The space features locally-made and sourced products including snacks, rice, coffee, tea.

As part of its ongoing expansion plan, Santan rebranded T&Co to Santan Cafe on 26th October. Find them located in between Mid Valley and The Gardens on the bridge at the Midvalley end, on the same floor as the Santan restaurant. The outlet serves Malaysian and Asean-blend beverages and light snacks.

Commemorating the first anniversary, Santan has partnered with local lifestyle artisan, Bingka, to produce handmade merchandise. These feature themes derived from its iconic ‘Pak Nasser’s Nasi Lemak’ a uniquely Santan product. Made by the local communities including homemakers, home tailors and students, the merchandise is now available online at and from all seven Santan outlets.
