Travellers will be able to fly Garuda Indonesia direct to Moscow, with the inaugural flight set to take off in August 2017. The thrice weekly service which will use the airline’s widebody Airbus A330-200 aircraft, was announced at a ceremony in Jakarta attended by the CEO & President of Garuda Indonesia M. Arif Wibowo, the Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Mikhail Yurievich Galuzyn and Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Wahid Supriyadi.
The introduction of the new service is expected to take advantage of the potential offered by the direct flights to increase Russian tourist arrivals to one hundred thousand in 2017. Figures available from 2016 show a 14% increase in Russian tourist arrivals in the first six months, with around fourteen thousand Indonesian visitors to Russia in 2015.
In his comments to guests, Russian Ambassador to Indonesia Mikhail Yurievich Galuzyn noted that the direct flight from Indonesia and Russia will further strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the economics and tourism sectors.

Garuda Indonesia’s direct Moscow flights form part of the airline’s plan for international flight network expansion in 2017. In addition to Moscow, Garuda Indonesia will also launch Jakarta – Los Angeles flights, via Tokyo in mid 2017.
