Travellers heading to or from Queensland’s Gold Coast this Summer now have additional flights to choose from. AirAsia has added an extra eighteen return services between Kuala Lumpur and the Gold Coast, delivering more than 13,000 additional visitor seats in and out of the region.
The daily services, operated by AirAsia’s long haul affiliate, AirAsia X, will rise to 11 per week from 13th December 2018 to 12th January 2019. This offers holidaymakers in both directions an affordable overseas getaway this Christmas and New Year holiday season.
Why Gold Coast?
AirAsia X Group Head of Commercial Barry Klipp says the additional flights have been added in response to growing demand from travellers in both directions. With long school holidays at both ends, both sides ‘win’. Visitors from Southeast Asia see the Gold Coast as a popular summer destination. For Australian travellers, they can escape during the festive season to the vibrant neighbourhood of Asia. Eight hours away is a choice of buzzing nightlife, rich food culture, idyllic beaches for all tastes.
AirAsia X connects the Gold Coast with major hubs across the Asia Pacific region through Kuala Lumpur. This was recognised by Gold Coast Airport CEO Chris Mills when he said
Thanks to AirAsia we are seeing more travellers from key international visitor markets like China, Japan and India come to the Gold Coast through Kuala Lumpur……. Increasingly these travellers are using Gold Coast Airport as a hub to travel domestically as well as across to New Zealand. …….. In the same way, locals can connect to more than 130 destinations in countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and Korea easily and affordably from Kuala Lumpur, and that is driving numbers on this route.
Mills said the loads on AirAsia flights to and from the Gold Coast had been climbing this year. The Gold Coast has become a destination and entry point to South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Or if you’re heading to Brisbane with kids, here are some starter things to do.
The additional services between Kuala Lumpur and Gold Coast will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays during the holiday period.
Gold Coast Airport is currently Australia’s sixth busiest airport and one of the fastest growing, with passenger numbers expected to reach 16.6 million annually by 2037.
