Qantas has unveiled its own specific Qantas Dreamliner specifications, to be installed in the aircraft due to be delivered in the fourth quarter of 2017. If you’ve ever flown in one of Boeing’s 787 Dreamliners, now flown by an increasing number of airlines, you’ll already have appreciated the larger windows with electronic screens among other innovations. The new planes will have all of those and then some…
In conjunction with the unveiling, Qantas also revealed an update to its iconic Kangaroo logo in readiness for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner joining the fleet next year. This is the sixth version of the familiar red-and-white kangaroo image to grace the tail of Qantas aircraft since it was first introduced in 1944 and the first since 2007 when the current design was introduced to coincide with the introduction of the Airbus A380 to the national carrier’s fleet.
The new Kangaroo tail logo will pair with the classic Qantas winged kangaroo which will be seen under the cockpit window and incorporate the individual name of each aircraft. Look out for the new tail logo gradually appearing from planes with immediate effect.
Qantas Dreamliner – special features
In addition to the features seen across the aircraft type, the new Dreamliner will use the Responsive Cabin Lighting which cycles through various colours and is arguably easier on the eyes. With the smoother ride afforded by turbulence sensing technology, this fuel efficient aircraft uses up to 20 per cent less fuel than others, producing lower Carbon Dioxide and lower Nitrous Oxide emissions.
Passengers in Business Class will enjoy similar seating and service levels to those currently available on the Qantas A330 and the set-up of the Premium Economy Cabin is due to be announced early in 2017.
Passengers in Economy Class will have access to a range of upgraded features, including:
- roomier seating with an increased seat pitch of 32” and a 6” Seat recline
- a specially designed seat, featuring
- mood lighting integrated into the seat
- a personal electronic device shelf
- more storage for small personal items
- specially designed stowage for a water bottle and reading materials
- a 12” IFE screen with high definition and a touch screen
- Individual USB and shared PC charging
- a foot net to provide extra support
The aircraft will be divideded into sections for Business, Premium Economy and Economy classes to carry a total of 236 passengers.
The 42 Business suites will be arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration, 28 Premium Economy seats in a 2-3-2 configuration and the 166 Economy passengers will find their seats arranged in threes across the double aisles.
The other feature that Qantas will be promoting is the addition of two new self-service bars – one each for Business and Economy, offering passengers the opportunity to socialise and help themselves to drinks and snacks during designated times inflight.
