Announcing the extension, Noormah Mohd Noor, CEO of ERL, operator of the KLIA Ekspres, cited results of a recent travel survey indicating that 64% of Malaysians and resident foreigners welcome promotional offers when making travel plans. The online travel survey was conducted conducted by Express Rail Link Sdn Bhd (ERL) from 17th to 28th June 2020. A breakdown of the 657 respondents included Malaysians and expatriates living in Malaysia.
What do post Covid-19 travellers want?
Survey results confirmed that many Malaysians are ready to travel again. 35% plan to travel as soon as the border controls are relaxed and another 26% hope to do so within the next 6 months.
Their main concerns:
- Cleanliness of accommodation, venues and transport
- Personal health concerns
- Being in an enclosed space with other people
Of the respondents, only 33% plan to fly for business purposes. New norms of conducting business following the COVID-19 pandemic has reduced the need for travel. The rest are planning to travel for leisure, with one third considering domestic destinations.
