Tigerair Australia has today announced a new destination in its growing domestic route map. Beginning June 22 2017, Townsville will be served from Melbourne with 4 new weekly flights. This grows Tigerair’s North Queensland destination list, which already includes Cairns and the Whitsunday Coast (via Proserpine).
Townsville is well served by other carriers including Qantas, Qantaslink, Virgin Australia, Jetstar and Rex. However the timing of the new flight offers choice to folks who are looking for more low-cost options and for whom Jetstar’s evening schedule is unsuitable. Tigerair’s flights will depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays according to the following schedule:
[table style=”table-hover”]Departure | Arrival | |
Melbourne-Townsville | 8:15 AM | 11:15 AM |
Townsville-Melbourne | 11:45 AM | 2:50 PM |
This competes with Jetstar’s schedule, which offers a 4:15 PM departure from Melbourne and a 7:45 PM departure from Townsville. Townsville Airport Operating Officer Kevin Gill highlights that “the schedule is well timed for the leisure traveller and opens up more connectivity for direct business on this existing route”.
Queensland on sale
Tigerair is launching with $10 fares on its June 22 flights, and $69 fares travelling between June 23 and 14 September. Other Queensland routes are on sale too, starting as low as $45 on the Sydney-Gold Coast route. These sale fares are available until 11:00 AM AEST Sat 25 February 2017 or until sold out, so be sure to get in quick. To book, visit tigerair.com.au.
