Joseph Schooling is Singapore’s first Olympic Gold Medal winner and has been carried home to the World’s Best Airport by the World’s Number One Airline to a big welcome. The new Singapore Champion flew in to Changi Airport early this morning to interviews and apparently, a family trip to their local Carrot Cake stall.
Schooling won his Gold in comprehensive fashion, setting a new Olympic Record and beating the defending Champion, Michael Phelps, into second place. Phelps had to share his silver medal with two (yes 2!) other swimmers, Hungarian László Cseh and South African Chad Le Clos.
Gold also goes to…
Changi Airport took the Gold for style with their Arrival Board announcement of Joseph Schooling’s Gold medal, the first ever for Singapore just after the win. They’ve now topped it with a welcome message with all the details of his Gold Medal win, albeit on the Departures Board. They explain why on their Facebook page, apparently the Arrivals Boards aren’t suitable for this type of layout.
Singapore Airlines also takes a Gold with their Facebook postings showing his physical arrival back in his home country, which includes an interview streamed live just after the flight landed.
And if you’re wandering about the carrot cake (chyetowkueh), it’s delicious, made with white carrot, not the orange one. Commonly found in food courts, kopitiams (local coffee shop) and night markets throughout Singapore and Malaysia and best eaten hot.
