From May 1, 2022, fully vaccinated travellers entering Malaysia will no longer need to perform pre-departure and arrival tests for COVID-19. This is part of the updated list of Covid-19 procedures covering inbound travel to Malaysia and every day activities released by the Ministry of Health on 27th April 2022.
COVID Arrival tests
This is especially welcome for travellers to Malaysia, especially for those on a tight budget, as the tests significantly affect their wallets. We also see an increase among Malaysians’ interest in short trips overseas as well, as travellers no longer need to find a testing centre before they return.
Also noteworthy is the removal of the requirement for travel insurance including COVID cover. However, it is still a good idea to purchase this cover as it is generally inexpensive and also covers other unwanted problems, such as lost luggage.
Mask wearing
This is especially welcome for those who spend time (or work) in outdoor settings with few other people.
Check-in with MySejahtera
Something that’s been in the news recently and will probably not be missed: having to pull out your phone and check-in every stop you make. But there are exceptions, dependent on your risk status.
Quarantine
All vaccinated travellers to Malaysia no longer need to quarantine, but the announcement includes relaxed arrangements for COVID-19 positive individuals.
