A new LATAM codeshare with Malaysia Airlines allows travellers to connect easily to Central and South America. This confirmation follows the LATAM Airlines Group’s departure from the oneworld Alliance from 1st May 2020.
New LATAM codeshare
The new LATAM codeshare agreement is effective from February 2020. Malaysia Airlines customers can now connect to Santiago, Chile via Auckland (New Zealand), Sydney or Melbourne (Australia). Service from these three cities use LATAM’s trans-Pacific services using the Malaysia Airlines “MH” flight code. In return, LATAM customers connect to Kuala Lumpur via the three cities on Malaysia Airlines flights carrying LATAM’s “LA” code.
The new codeshare agreement further reinforces Malaysia Airlines’ commitment to offering travellers greater choice in destinations. International visitors from Central and South America will also enjoy access to special programmes during Visit Malaysia 2020. Malaysia Airlines is working closely with Tourism Malaysia to promote this tropical country offering a wide variety of choices.
….. With this, we will be able to build our footprint in South America, with Chile acting as a gateway for Malaysians to explore the region. Malaysia Airlines Group CEO, Captain Izham Ismail
With jungle habitats and exotic flora and fauna, eco-tourism is popular and growing. The country has some great beaches and tropical islands like Langkawi and Sipadan, a world-famous diving destination. Langkawi’s UNESCO listed geoparks attract many visitors annually as do the UNESCO heritage cities of Melaka and George Town, Penang.
