Batik Air flies in to Penang from Jakarta

Batik Air flight ID7161 made its inaugural flight into Penang from Soekarno-Hatta airport, Tangerang (CGK) on 30th May 2019. This new service gives travellers an easier way to connect directly between northern Malaysia and the Indonesian capital, Jakarta.

The flight was welcomed by airport and government personnel and sister airline Malindo Air’s Government Relations Director, Raja Saidi. Malaysia Airport Holding Berhad CEO Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin was pleased to welcome the new service, which strengthens regional connectivity.

He commented that 

…. Batik Air is the third airline that offers Jakarta – Penang routes. This will provide more choices for business travellers and tourists, but also medical tourists that Penang is known as a centre for medical tourism.  Raja Azmi

Batik Air will operate the flights using their Boeing 737-800NG aircraft offering 12 business class seats and 150 in economy class. Travellers will enjoy inflight entertainment with audio video on demand at each seat. Penang joins Batik Air’s international destinations after Singapore, Chennai, India; Perth, Australia and Guilin and Kunming in China. The airline services more than 46 domestic and foreign destinations offering more than 350 flights per day.

Flights offer Batik Air passengers more flexibility

The Soekarno-Hatta – Penang route will support government programs in increasing foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia, helping to encourage economic growth and increase interstate business movements. In addition, travellers within Indonesia may make an easy connection in Jakarta to the new Penang service.

Among the Indonesian destinations made more accessible are many of the popular tourist destinations. These include Medan,, Pekanbaru, Batam, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, and Lombok. Likewise travellers between Penang and Kupang, Pontianak, Banjarmasin, Makassar, Kendari, Palu, Manado, Gorontalo, Ambon, Ternate, Sorong, Manokwari, Jayapura, and Merauke will also benefit from the easier connection.
