AirAsia X has unveiled their newest destination – a return to New Zealand, though this time round, the destination is Auckland, via Gold Coast at a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur on 12th January. The new route was launched by His Excellency Dr. John Subritzky, New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia, in the company of AirAsia X CEO Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, AirAsia Group CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes and AirAsia X Bhd CEO, Benyamin Ismail.
Daily flights are scheduled to take off on 22nd March 2016 strengthening the airline’s connectivity between Asia, Australia and the North Island of New Zealand.
Auckland, though not the capital of New Zealand (that’s Wellington), is its largest city and an ideal entry point into the land of the Silver fern, the All-Blacks and the original home of bungee jumping.
In Aotearoa, the native Maori name for New Zealand the land of the long white cloud, you can enjoy spectacular natural scenery and the distinctive Maori culture, or self-drive from Auckland to the scenic Northland chasing sands at the Ninety Mile beach and visit Cape Reinga at the Northern tip of New Zealand. Or you could drive down to Matamata to visit the Hobbiton Movie Set, one of the filming locations for The Lord of The Rings Trilogies, both only a few hours drive from Auckland city.
In conjunction with the launch, you can pick up promotional all-in, one-way fares from RM499 (economy) or if you’d prefer to fly at the pointy end, you can pick up a Premium Flatbed seat from RM1499.
These promotional fares are available for booking on the AirAsia website, via AirAsia’s mobile app on iPhone and Android devices, as well as the AirAsia mobile site from 13th January to 24 January 2016 for travel between 22nd March and 5th February 2017.
….I am really happy to see another major airline like AirAsia X making its entry into New Zealand, offering all Kiwis competitive fares to visit Asia – and the broader Southeast Asia region – through the airline’s extensive flight network. I look forward to seeing a higher number of tourists visit New Zealand as a result of the new daily flights into Auckland, boosting our tourism sector and strengthening economic growth. Dr. John Subritzky, New Zealand High Commissioner to Malaysia
You will not need a visa for the quick stop-over at the Gold Coast and Malaysians can travel visa-free to New Zealand for up to 3 months. Travellers can also make use of the Fly-Thru option to connect through to Auckland from other cities within AirAsia group’s network, or use the Multi-City option to enjoy a stopover in Gold Coast on the way (you will need to apply for an Australian visa for this longer stay), allowing more flexibility in your travel plans.
