AirAsia’s latest Airbus A320neo, registered as 9M-AGK, is the first A320neo assembled outside Europe. The airline took delivery of the new aircraft, powered by CFM LEAP-1A engines, at a special ceremony in Tianjin, China. The new A320neo seats 186 passengers and is equipped with the innovative Space-Flex cabin developed for the best-selling A320 family of jetliners. This is a lavatory and galley layout which makes more efficient use of space at the rear of the plane.

AirAsia is largest airline customer of the A320 Family. Their order book currently includes 578 all-Airbus aircraft including 404 of the A320neo Family. This new aircraft is the thirteenth AirAsia A320neo to be delivered.

Speaking at the delivery ceremony, AirAsia Berhad CEO, Aireen Omar said the airline is very pleased with the A320neo. She commented that the fuel savings of up to 15 percent and the additional range of 500 nautical miles translates to lower passenger fares.

We are very proud to receive the first Airbus A320neo fully assembled in Tianjin, China and we would like to congratulate Airbus, as well as the Chinese Government for achieving yet another milestone. Aireen Omar

The Tianjin Airbus facility

The Airbus Final Assembly Line Asia (FALA) in Tianjin was inaugurated in 2008.  It is Airbus’ third single-aisle aircraft final assembly line location worldwide, after Toulouse and Hamburg and the first outside Europe. To date, around 340 aircraft have been assembled and delivered from Tianjin, China.

…. The delivery of the NEO is a milestone for our Asia Final Assembly Line, which will help to meet the robust demand of our customers in China and the Asia-Pacific region. Eric Chen, President of Airbus Commercial Aircraft China
