AirAsia strengthens Langkawi and Johor Bahru as hubs

AirAsia has moved to strengthen Malaysian hubs Langkawi and Johor Bahru through the addition of three new routes.

The three new routes comprise

• Johor Bahru to Kuala Terengganu
• Langkawi hub, to Kuching, Sarawak
• Langkawi to Shenzhen, China

The three times weekly flights between Johor Bahru and Kuala Terengganu will begin on 22nd June 2017.

Flights between Langkawi and Kuching, Sarawak will run four times weekly. Service will commence on 9th August 2017 as will the thrice weekly Langkawi to Shenzhen flights. The Langkawi – Shenzhen route is AirAsia’s third international route after Singapore and Guangzhou.

Malaysian hubs decentralisation

The growing decentralisation of AirAsia’s Malaysian hubs will make travelling easier for visitors to and from both northern (through Langkawi) and southern (via Johor Bahru) peninsular Malaysia as both airports have international border control facilities. This move makes it easier for passengers from inside and outside Malaysia to make connections without having to go through Kuala Lumpur’s KLIA2.
