AirAsia Runway Ready Designer Search 2016 has named the top three designers for each of the five countries in this year’s competition. These fifteen young designers will compete in the Grand Final to be held in Kuala Lumpur this August.
In this year’s expanded Search, designers in an extra four ASEAN countries had the opportunity to enter the competition which offers a pathway to presenting their designs on the runway and win prizes and awards at the same time.
In Kuala Lumpur, where the competition was first held last year, 487 online submissions were received from all over Malaysia and were considered during two rounds of judging during the Kuala Lumpur auditions held recently. Since then, further deliberations were conducted and shortlisted contestants were given the opportunity to meet and learn from Andrew Tan, Founder of KL Fashion Week Ready to Wear 2016 and Alia Bastamam, renowned fashion designer before the Top 3 were revealed on 14th June.
Malaysia’s finalists
Ryan Alexander Tan Shaur-An from ESMOD Kuala Lumpur, Ng Yi Xuan from SML Fashion Academy and Loh Teik Lim from ESMOD Kuala Lumpur have made the cut to represent Malaysia at the region-wide young designer search. They will battle it out with 12 other finalists from Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand this coming August.
The Prizes
The Grand Prize winner in this year’s Search will take home an impressive bundle of prizes apart from the title of ‘AirAsia’s Most Promising Young Designer 2016’ …
The prizes, worth RM350,000 include
- a confirmed show segment to showcase his or her full collection at KLFW RTW 2017
- mentorship from the KLFW RTW team
- RM25,000 sponsored by FashionValet to produce a capsule collection to be sold on fashionvalet.com
- 150,000 AirAsia BIG Points sponsored by AirAsia BIG, AirAsia or AirAsia X flights
AirAsia is KLFW RTW 2016’s Preferred Travel Partner and will be flying in fashion designers throughout the AirAsia Group’s route network with designers coming from India, Indonesia, China, Australia and South Korea to be featured on the KLFW RTW 2016 runway.
