You won’t have to trek to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to access any of the new Batik Air routes due to take off this December. The nine new routes are all scheduled to commence on 8th December 2025. This development is a milestone marking one of the largest single-day network launches undertaken by the airline, reflecting Batik Air’s plan to strengthen its regional footprint and enhance connectivity across Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
The new Batik Air routes cover different airports
Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang (SZB), Kuala Lumpur’s city airport is at the centre of this expansion. This is helping it to rapidly transforming into a modern gateway offering travellers enhanced convenience, speed, and accessibility.
Set to take off on 8th December will be four new flights two domestic, two international. Travellers will now have more choice as Batik Air becomes the second carrier to service each destination Singapore and Jakarta.
Subang – Singapore
Subang – Jakarta
Subang – Langkawi
Subang – Johor Bahru
Batik Air’s support for the government’s Subang Airport Regeneration Plan (SARP) will go a long way in helping position Subang as a vibrant regional hub.
Penang, with four new destinations, is assuming a more strategic role within Batik Air’s network. The four new services
Penang – Singapore
Penang – Medan
Penang – Kuching
Penang – Kota Kinabalu
will serve as a key connector linking the north with East Malaysia and neighbouring countries. The Heritage listed city’s rich cultural history, vibrant tourism location and growing economic significance make it an ideal hub for domestic and regional travel.
Likewise, the new Ipoh – Singapore route fills a recognised gap in the market, introducing Ipoh as a new destination in Batik Air’s network, served through Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (IPH). This is a convenient gateway that is becoming popular with travellers from Singapore, where the historic city’s colonial charm, vibrant food scene, and proximity to natural attractions make it an increasingly popular getaway. With the launch of direct Ipoh–Singapore flights, travel between the two cities has been made more seamless, creating opportunities for weekend escapes, family visits, business travel, and cultural discovery.
With the Kuala Lumpur – Singapore air route consistently coming in as one of the top ten in the world with around 112 flights daily, it makes sense to ‘spread the load’. It was the busiest international route worldwide in 2023, although it has been overtaken by the Hong Kong-Taipei route more recently. This makes these three new Singapore routes an important inclusion in this expansion.
Terminal change in Changing Airport
Singapore remains one of the top destinations for Malaysian travellers, and all Lion Group airlines, including Batik Air, will operate from Changi Airport Terminal 4 from November 2025. The move is expected to offer passengers enhanced facilities and a more seamless travel experience.
Batik Air CEO, Chandran Rama Muthy, said the expansion reflects careful planning and a strategy for regional aviation focused on connecting secondary cities, strengthening its presence in ASEAN, and establishing travel corridors promoting tourism, trade, and economic development.
He added that:
…. By investing in Subang and Penang as hubs and leveraging Singapore as an important source of inbound tourists, we are also supporting preparations for Visit Malaysia 2026, ensuring more travellers can experience Malaysia with greater ease.
