Batik Air Malaysia adds four new destinations

Batik Air has added four new destinations in China and Taiwan, so get your bags ready to head to Kunming, Zhangjiajie and Zhengzhou in China, and Kaohsiung in Taiwan. The airline sees this as a strategic move in line with their commitment to provide diverse travel options and strengthen its presence in key tourist Asian destinations.

Batik Air already flies to Chengdu, Guangzhou and Haikou, with the additional destinations supporting the Governments of both Malaysia and China’s new visa-free initiatives. 

Group Strategy Director of Batik Air, Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy says the airline sees these destinations as strategic milestones,

….. bolstering our airline’s market standing, nurturing both business and cultural ties. This marks a significant step in our quest for a more extensive global footprint in Asia.

The four new destinations – what to see?

All the destinations show the diversity across this part of the region which share a common language.Each one has its own unique identifiers, be it natural beauty, food or cultural practices.

Kunming, China – Gateway to Natural Wonders

Kunming, Capital of Yunnan Province, known as the “City of Eternal Spring” is home to one of the most vibrant floral industries in the world, thanks to its consistently pleasant climate all-year-round. As you fly in, make sure you look out the windows to see the truly amazing terraced rice fields of Yuanyang County, on the Southern slopes of Ailao Mountain. They’re officially acknowledged by UNESCO as a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site. The city itself is a great place for ‘foodies’, with Halal food easily available. In the photo at the top of the page, the large city mosque is just to the left of the picture. Halal food is not difficult to find.

You can head to Kunming (KMG) starting 8th February, 2024 with direct flights from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) four times weekly. Flights depart KLIA every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday at 9:50 pm  with the return flight departing at 2:35 am on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Zhangjiajie, China – A Mystic Adventure Unveiled

Zhangjiajie, located in the northwestern part China’s Hunan province will be familiar to anyone who watched the first ‘Avatar’ movie, parts of which were filmed there. Renowned for its surreal beauty and natural marvels, Zhangjiajie is frequently hailed as the “Avatar Mountains”, where the iconic Zhangjiajie National Forest Park takes centre stage, showcasing towering sandstone pillars reminiscent of cinematic masterpieces of Avatar.
The inaugural flight to Zhangjiajie (DYG) takes off on 9th February, 2024, just in time for Chinese New Year, with direct flights from KLIA three times a week. The flight departs from KLIA at 9:30 am and the return flight departs at 03:25 pm every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.

Zhengzhou, China – A Cultural Odyssey Awaits

Explore Zhengzhou, a city nestled in the central part of China’s Henan province. Well known as the “Golden City” due to its historical significance as a transportation hub and economic focal point, Zhengzhou welcomes travellers with a harmonious mix of ancient wonders and modern marvels.
Flights to this captivating city resume on 9th February, 2024, with direct flights from KLIA four times a week. The flight departs KLIA at 7:40 pm every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The return flight departs at 2:00 am every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Kaohsiung, Taiwan – Where Heritage Meets Beauty

Kaohsiung, located on the southern tip of Taiwan blends a rich heritage with breathtaking beauty. Preserving its cultural heritage, Kaohsiung showcases iconic landmarks like the historic Lotus Pond, with ornate temples and pavilions standing in harmony with the serene waters.
With flights commencing on 7th February, 2024, the route to Kaohsiung (KHH) will operate three times weekly, you can explore this rich cultural destination, Batik Air’s second gateway into Taiwan. Flights depart KLIA at 2:15 am, returning at 5:00 pm every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. This flight continus to Nagoya, creating a bridge with Japan. Currently, flights between KLIA and Taipei (TPE) operate twice daily, connecting to three destinations in Japan – Okinawa, Osaka and Nagoya. With this new service, Nagoya flight frequencies will increase to six times weekly.

All these services utilise Batik Air’s Boeing 737-8 aircraft, featuring 180 Economy Class seats. The fare includes a 20kg baggage allowance. Batik Air also offers a selection of pre-purchased meals and additional baggage allowance at discounted rates. Meals and drinks are also available for sale on-board in all Batik Air flights.
