Malaysia Airlines has extended its Economy Class flexible fare options to ASEAN and South Asian destinations regions effective 18th February 2020. The flexible fare options, previously available only on domestic Malaysia routes, all include a complimentary meal, but offer different baggage options.
Economy fare choices
The three unique fare options (Lite, Basic, Flex) can be chosen based on passenger travel preference and need. All fare types also include cabin baggage of up to 7kg and access to the Malaysia Airlines in-flight-entertainment system.

The new fare options are in response to customer feedback on different passengers’ travel needs. They cater for the HLO (hand luggage only) passenger as well as the ‘serious shopper’. Flex fare passengers will also have flexibility in changing travel dates, refunds and rebooking entitlements. In addition, the Flex fare offers the opportunity to travel earlier on the day of travel, subject to availability.
The Basic fare gives travellers the full-service carrier experience, with 20kg of free check-in baggage. In addition, passengers enjoy Enrich benefits, including Enrich Miles upgrades.
Lite Fare caters specifically to day-trippers, business travellers and commuters. This Fare offers a fast and efficient experience to passengers wishing to reach their destination seamlessly, without inconvenience.
Kuala Lumpur – Singapore – Kuala Lumpur shuttle
Passengers on the existing shuttle-eligible routes between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore route will now have Lite and Basic fares, in addition to the Shuttle fare. Launched in December 2019, the Shuttle fare is tailored for regular passengers needing flexibility in their travel plans. Passengers booked on this fare brand receive all benefits of the Flex brand fare plus check-in baggage allowance of 35kg and priority check at dedicated counters.
The new flexible fare options affect bookings for travels made from the 18th of February 2020 onwards, Bookings made before 18th February are unaffected by the new Economy fare choices.
