German airline Condor Flugdienst is the latest airline to fly into Kuala Lumpur. The inaugural flight flew into KL International Airport (KLIA) at 6.35am on 2nd November 2018. Condor, which sells itself as a leisure airline, will service the new route FRA-KUL route three times a week, leaving Frankfut on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. The return leg leaves Kuala Lumpur each Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.
Initial reports indicated that this route would be serviced by the airline’s single Airbus A330-200. However, the airline no longer flies this aircraft and the service will be operated with the ageing Boeing 767-300. The flight time is given as around twelve and a half hours. The new service is now the only direct flight between Germany and KL after Malaysia Airlines Bhd and Lufthansa removed the route some years ago.The service is marketed to appeal to business travellers, youths, backpackers and multi-city flyers wanting an inexpensive option between Germany and Asia.
Bookings can be made direct on the airline’s website.
Condor is the 58th passenger airline to use KLIA. The new addition is expected to boost traffic through the country’s main entry point. In particular the airline is targeting Germans wishing to travel to Malaysia, which has seen a drop in arrivals since Lufthansa and MAS dropped the route.
The airline is part of the Thomas Cook Airline Group. Thomas Cook is well known as a leading European group of leisure airlines operating across Germany, UK and Nordic countries.
