Virgin Australia has announced the establishment of new Brisbane bases for long haul international pilots and cabin crew, as well as a dedicated East Coast charter operations base. Virgin Australia already has its operational headquarters in Bowen Hills, Brisbane and a maintenance base at Brisbane Airport.
The airline recently introduced daily flights between Los Angeles and Brisbane which helps boost tourism, trade and investment between Queensland and the United States and the new announcement has been welcomed by the Queensland state government.
The cabin crew base will add 168 new positions filled, with crew coming from across Australia and the new long haul pilot base established in October 2014 supports around 65 Captains, First Officers and Second Officers of Virgin Australia’s Boeing 777 aircraft.
Virgin Australia will permanently base Two Fokker 50 charter aircraft in Brisbane, supported by a significant investment in resources and infrastructure and builds on the success of Virgin Australia’s charter services from Brisbane to Miles and Roma. Virgin Australia currently operates more than 400 charter services across Australia each month.
