Doha, QATAR, 7th January 2015
Are you hoping to be on the first commercial flight of the Qatar Airways A350 XWB from Doha to Frankfurt on January 15, 2015, you’re too late – it’s sold out.
Qatar Airways is the global launch customer for the A350 XWB and will be the only airline flying the aircraft type for quite some time.
The airline worked closely with the aircraft manufacturer, Airbus, and engine manufacturer Rolls-Royce during the design of the aircraft which makes extensive use of advanced materials combining composites (53 percent), titanium and advanced aluminium alloys making up over 70% of the A350 XWB’s airframe to make it very weight-efficient. The aircraft’s innovative all-new carbon fibre reinforced plastic fuselage results in lower fuel burn as well as easier maintenance.
The new member of the Qatar fleet, the first of 80 on order, was introduced to media and guests at the Premium Terminal of Doha International Airport by Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, who said: “We are ready to commence operations with the A350 XWB and are delighted to introduce another level of service with our expanded fleet.” He further added “The engineering design of the A350 XWB is modern, technologically refined and spacious, and we are proud to welcome yet another fine aeroplane into the Qatar Airways’ fleet.”
The A350 XWB will feature 36 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, offering 80” fully flat beds and 17” HD in-flight entertainment screens. The 247 Economy Class passengers will enjoy 18″wide seating in a 3-3-3 configuration, with a pitch up to 32″. Passengers will view in-flight entertainment on a 10.6″ entertainment screen, and will appreciate the redesigned vertical side wall panel which gives window seats passengers extra space.
Testimony to the excellent relationship Qatar Airways enjoys with their aircraft partners Airbus and their engine supplier Rolls Royce, was the presence at the launch of Mr. Didier Evrard, Airbus Executive Vice President Head of Programmes and Mr. Eric Schulz, Rolls-Royce President of Civil Large Engines.
Qatar Airways is the only airline in the world to operate every family of Airbus’ modern airline portfolio. In addition to the 80 A350s it has on order, the airline currently has an Airbus fleet comprising of the A320, A330 Freighter, A319LR, A321, A330, A340 and A380 families.
