The recent announcement of a Singapore Airlines/Alaska Airlines partnership will bring cheer to passengers. Especially those seeking easy links between North America and South East Asia. The agreement is expected take from 27th September 2017, subject to regulatory approvals.
Singapore Airlines/Alaska Airlines partnership – benefits
Singapore Airlines will add its ‘SQ’ designator code to Alaska Airlines-operated flights on routes serving eighteen destinations within the US and Mexico. This includes such diverse destinations as Anchorage, Washington (Reagan National), Seattle and Mexico City.
Included in the agreement are existing codeshare flights operated by Virgin America serving 19 routes across America. This gives SIA passengers easier access to cities like Denver, Honolulu, Nashville, Newark and Washington (Dulles). Virgin America was acquired by Alaska Air Group in 2016.
Frequent Flyer Programme Partnership
Members of Singapore Airlines’ (KrisFlyer) and Alaska Airlines’ (Mileage Plan) frequent flyer programmes, will be able to earn miles when travelling on flights operated by either carrier from 27th September 2017. From the same date, KrisFlyer members will be able to redeem miles for Alaska Airlines-operated flights. Redemptions for Mileage Plan members on Singapore Airlines-operated flights will be available later.
