AirAsia continues its post-covid expansion across Asia with with the announcement that direct Penang-Hong Kong services will take off from 10th August 2023. Penang is AirAsia’s third largest hub and this was the route that introduced it as such in 2009.
This route is the airline’s seventh direct international route from Penang and will further boost regional inbound tourism to the state, further building one of the State’s top industries. The three weekly flights will add to a total of 217 flights weekly from Penang to both domestic and international destinations.

His sentiments were echoed by Riad Asmat, AirAsia Malaysia CEO who noted that AirAsia and anticipates a strong response from both leisure and business travellers on this historical route. This is especially so, given that the airline is the only low-cost carrier connecting both islands directly.
