OD1900 flew out of Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 12:30p.m, touching down in Labuan at 3:00p.m. The flight was seen off by new Federal Territories Minister Khalid Samad as Labuan, along with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya is a Federal Territory.
Why fly to Labuan?
…. We are thrilled to start flying to Labuan, as the 14th city in Malaysia that Malindo Air flies to, during our Merdeka month. Chandran Rama Muthy, Malindo Air CEO
He noted that the daily flights will benefit the city, as it’s based on an import-export oriented economy. The airline is therefore anticipating strong demand for cargo services for key export products, including seafood, flour, ceramic tiles and animal feed.
Leisure travellers visiting family and friends and tourist wishing to enjoy the untouched natural sites and marine park will also benefit from the entry of this new player.
Acting group CEO of Malaysia Airports, Raja Azmi Raja Nazuddin applauded the move by Malindo Air to open up the route. He noted that…
….In 2017 alone, Labuan Airport managed a total of 577,459 passengers, with the specific sector of KUL-LBU accounting for at least 75% of the total load. We hope that with this additional route, air connectivity within Malaysia will be strengthened as we aim to make the country a global hub. Raja Azmi
