Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) has announced significantly increased flight frequencies to meet travel demands through to March 2024, with an additional 248 flights across its domestic and international network. Both Malaysia Airlines and Firefly will offer the additional services, departing from KL International Airport Terminal 1 (KUL), Subang Airport (SZB) and Penang International Airport (PEN).
The airline anticipates a surge in travel demand, with the substantial increase in flight frequencies offered to meet the expanding requirements of travellers, offering a wider range of travel dates for added flexibility and convenience.

Increased flight frequencies
Malaysia Airlines and Firefly are adding extra flights during the peak periods in December to meet heightened travel demands including during the Christmas period. For domestic travel starting December,
- Malaysia Airlines will increase flights from its main hub in KUL to
- Sibu (SBW) from 10x to 12x weekly;
- Tawau (TWU) from 10x to 16x weekly
- Kuching (KCH) from 54x to 57x weekly.
- Firefly flights from PEN to
- Kota Kinabalu (BKI) will increase from 14x to 15x weekly
- Langkawi (LGK) from 10x to 11x weekly
- from Subang (SZB) to Langkawi (LGK) from 12x to 13x weekly.
- International flights from Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to
- Sydney (SYD) will increase from 14x to 18x weekly
- Melbourne (MEL) from 14x to 17x weekly
- Amritsar (ATQ) from 2x to 4x weekly
- Cochin (COK) from 6x to 7x weekly
- Narita (NRT) from 12x to 14x weekly
Chinese New Year
For the Chinese New Year festive period, the airline will Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Singapore (SIN) services by 2x weekly, raising the frequency from 56 to 58 between 7th and 8th February 2024. This route has recently regained its spot as busiest air route in the world by seats offered.
In addition, frequencies to domestic routes will also be increased to accommodate the festive celebration, with one-way fares starting from RM109 within Peninsular Malaysia and from RM255 for Sabah and Sarawak routes. These would be for the ‘Lite’ fares, great if you can travel HLO (hand luggage only). Malaysia Airlines’ will be increasing flights from its hub in KUL to key domestic destinations; with an increase of
- 3x additional flights each to Kota Bharu (KBR) and Alor Setar (AOR);
- 8x to Sandakan (SDK)
- 9x to Sibu (SBW)
- 1x to Tawau (TWU)
- 2x to Kuching (KCH)
