Following the equalisation of the Passenger Service Charge (PSC), beginning 1st January 2017, Malaysia Airlines will be offering New Year Low Fares to destinations across ASEAN. Although the equalisation of the charge (also known as Airport Tax) will increase the charge levied on passengers flying on low cost airlines from KLIA 2 by a small margin, the identification of ASEAN destinations as a separate category has meant a significant drop in the charge from the existing rate for carriers flying out of all other airports, which is currently in line with charges for other international destinations.
New Year Low Fares
While the airline has not yet released details of the fares on offer, the reduction of RM35 (approx USD$ 8.33) per passenger for ASEAN passengers at KLIA is expected to be passed on as a saving to passengers.
However, they have indicated that they are planning to offer fares from MYR 99 for domestic and ASEAN travellers. Malaysia Airlines includes a checked baggage allowance of 30kg in Economy Class and as a full service airline, all meals and entertainment are included in the fare price. Though you may need to pay to select your seat, the airline doesn’t add on any ‘convenience fee’ for credit card payments.
The sale period starts on 1st January 2017, for travel beginning 1st January 2017.
December offers
If you can’t wait, the airline is currently offering special fares until 15th December for travel from 8th Dec 2016 – 24 May 2017 (from Kuala Lumpur KLIA) and until 16th January (from Penang).
Some of the fares on offer include a return ticket Kuala Lumpur to London from MYR 2199 and Penang / Kuching from MYR 254 or Kota Kinabalu MYR 327.
