Malaysia Airlines latest initiative to assist its staff during the current Covid-19 crisis, was launched on 10th March 2021. MHartisans is an avenue for its employees to create, produce and sell their own range of handcrafted items via the airline’s flagship e-retail store, Temptations.
Behind MHartisans
MHartisans was created to encourage employee’s entrepreneurial spirit, enabling them to transform their
hobbies and passion into income-generating projects. It acknowledges that this is a this challenging time for everyone in the aviation industry. To celebrate the launch, the airline has debuted an exclusive line of dolls and memorabilia by two of its talented cabin crew.
Wesley Anak Juntan joined Malaysia Airlines in 2010 as a cabin crew. His exclusive line of dolls clad in traditional Iban costume honour his origins. Wesley’s debut collection for MHartisans includes three dolls, the Sarawak Doll, the Sabah Doll, and the Kebaya Girl Doll. The Kebaya Girl is clad in the iconic Malaysia Airlines’ kebaya and styled according to the grooming standards of Malaysia Airlines, down to the classic French twist hairstyle. The kebaya is handsewn from the actual fabric of Malaysia Airlines’ cabin crew uniform.
Former graphic designer Agnes ‘Aggie’ Yap joined Malaysia Airlines over 20 years ago. She’s been inspired by the airline’s iconic kebaya girl to design a range of memorabilia including sticker sets, keychains, and protective mask folder. Aggie embarked on this project by creating designs on her tablet during breaks while on duty flights.
