N9 is the ‘shorthand’ way of writing Negeri Sembilan, which means ‘nine states’ a historical reference to the original nine areas that made up the State. The State of N9 is a quick drive south of Kuala Lumpur, either by the North South Highway, or the more picturesque routes to the western side. With a lot of rural areas and diverse terrain, the people are proud of their traditions and culinary offerings, making glamping in N9 an easy option as there are many beautiful spots and choices available.
Glamping in N9: We check out four options
Each of the locations we visited was unique, with different styles of accommodation, price range, location and activities available. They’re all located in the south and western side of the State, not too far from Melaka. Use our map to see where we went, you can also open the link on a new tab by clicking on the [] in the top right hand corner.
While three of the locations offered ready tents, one had cabins with a camping ground for you to bring your own and one had both tents and cabins.
Tampin Water Park
Hutan Lipur Gunung Tampin,
73000 Tampin

We didn’t stay the night, though we’ll probably be back to try out their brand new self contained tents, completely fitted out with attached bathroom and toiletries. They only have two of these tents for now, but you can also choose one of their 4 cabins, which also have double beds, private facilities and toiletries provided.
The weather wasn’t good, so we couldn’t try out the pools or the zipline and instead we went for a look up the top of Bukit Tampin where they have the Telecoms towers. There’s a path that connects to the public road, though we went by car. We did see a lot of walkers on the way, despite the light rain.

It was getting late by the time we arrived at Durian Ecolodge, and we headed straight to our cabin. All the cabins are named after different types of durians and there are single units as well as pairs, which would be good for a family or two couples.
Furnishing is simple, but the mattresses are comfortable and everything is spotlessly clean, with a toilet/shower room, supplied with towels and toiletries. The bed has two sets of sockets and reading lights, and there’s another on the table, making a total of three sockets in the room. There’s also a small fridge, a TV and a fire extinguisher.
Breakfast isn’t included, but the facilities are available for you to bring your own food. You can use the facilities in the Ecolodge Hall, a large covered and well ventilated space with plenty of wet-weather activities. We’ve never played mini table tennis before, or Power Hockey, but we found them easy to learn and fun for all ages. There’s also a billiard table, dart board and for the kids, mini archery and a small playground with some gym equipment as well. There are also two barbeques close to the Hall.
There’s a small stage, making this a suitable venue for a company team building location, or family gathering. The paths are well lit and we discovered barbeque pits and a swilling pool near the lookout tower. Durian Ecolodge has a few camping grounds with spaces for you to pitch your own tent. The one in the highest location with the best view over the nearby hills, also has a shower and toilet block.

Other activities on site are walking among the trees, discovering a lot about durians, and learning about the kelulut (stingless bees) they keep for pollination of the trees as well as honey collection. They also have a number of ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles) but we gave them a miss as the roads are quite steep, though some of our companions tried them out and had a ball.

Api-Api D’NKA Glamping offers visitors a choice of cabins or tents, some of which have two rooms. They are equipped with airbeds and airconditioned, with mosquito nets. However, all the accommodation shares a (clean) common toilet block and you need to bring your own toiletries. Each of the four cubicles contains a toilet and shower.
There are also outdoor showers, useful if you want to swim. Each tent and cabin has a pool out the front. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to enjoy the pool, because of steady rain during our stay.

There are barbeque pits available and there is an open air restaurant open in the evening where steamboat is available. We enjoyed steamboat for dinner, it’s Malay style with both soup and grilling available. There are bicycles, suitable for adults and children. These would have been great had the weather been better, as an early morning ride in the fresh rural air would be a good preparation for breakfast.
The rain kept up through the night and morning putting an end to our bicycle expedition, archery and the petting zoo. So we walked down the road to Masjid Tanah Chembong, which is over a hundred years old, before continuing along the road to enjoy some ‘never tasted before’ treats at Warong Busoko 2.0 for breakfast.

Temuan Hills Campsite
Jalan Jeram Peti,
Kg Senama Ulu,
Rembau
Tel: 010-242 2201
Although we didn’t stay at Temuan Hills, we spent a couple of hours checking out what they have to offer. They have a range of different types of tents, plus cabins. The smaller tents and cabins are arranged around an open area which has shared bathroom block, and includes a surau, washing machine, and small kitchenette.

Two larger tents up the hill have toiletries and a shared toilet block with two toilet/showers. They also offer tea and coffee making facilities and the tents come with two large beds. It’s great for a family and there’s even a chess set.
Then we spent an hour or so trying out their brand new ATVs. Despite being newbies, we found the vehicle easy to operate and as the terrain was fairly flat, not at all scary. They do have more challenging trails for the more experienced riders.
The Temuan Hills restaurant menu features wood fired Pizza and we were able to see the whole process before enjoying the delicious results. They do offer other dishes with an Italian/Malaysian twist.

Conclusion
All four options have their own attractions depending on the location and surrounding countryside as well as the type and quality of the accommodation. All would present some difficulty to visitors using a wheelchair or walking aid, but generally they were family friendly and all had food available on-site, nearby, or facilities for you to bring your own. Check them out on the links provided for pricing and availability.
