Why visit Tehran?
The ancient state of Persia, now the Islamic republic of Iran, occupies the northern side of the Persian Gulf and is home to many historical sites dating back to the days of the Persian Empire.
Extensive marble ruins mark Persepolis, the empire’s capital founded by Darius I in the 6th century B.C. The modern capital, Tehran, with its backdrop of the majestic Alborz mountain range, is home to UNESCO World Heritage site, the opulent Golestan Palace, seat of the Qajar Dynasty (1794–1925) as well as more modern landmarks such as the 435m-high Milad Tower, built in 1971 and the perfect place to oversee this bustling metropolis of 14 million people.
This cosmopolitan city houses many great palaces museums, parks and great local restaurants that will leave all visitors wanting more.
The people of Iran are proud of their national Persian language, spoken by the majority of the people. The local dialect of Arabic spoken in Iran is Khuzestani Arabic
Fly-Thru from outside Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok
The return to Tehran was announced jointly in Tehran over the weekend by the Chief Executive Officers of both AirAsia X and their Thai Counterpart, Thai AirAsia X. Both noted that the new services will not just link these two cities with Tehran, but others in the region as both KLIA2 and Don Mueang are major AirAsia Fly-Thru hubs, making connections easier with their baggage checked-through to the final destination without the hassle of immigration clearance en-route.
….. We are very happy to be in Tehran today to announce this new connectivity into our flight network connecting Asia and Australasia with the Middle East. Iran is a large and growing economy and Tehran is a brilliant business city. The recent lifting of sanctions opens up exciting new prospects for Iran as a tourist destination. We believe that the revival of direct flights to Tehran from Kuala Lumpur is timely and we foresee that our direct flights from both Asean cities of Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok can improve bilateral relations while encouraging trade and tourism activities between the cities. Benyamin Ismail, CEO of AirAsia X
…. The launch of Tehran is a huge milestone for Thai AirAsia X as it marks the first direct low-cost airline to connect the Middle East and the people of Tehran to Bangkok and beyond. The direct flight will be available 3 days per week and allow travellers to conveniently travel to Bangkok at an affordable fare. Apart from Bangkok’s vibrant city, travellers can easily connect to world famous beaches in Phuket and Krabi or beautiful northern cities of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, among other destinations, with AirAsia’s connectivity.
