Passengers arriving in Kuala Lumpur International Airport KLIA Terminal 1 now have a more conducive waiting area, with the recent enhancement of e-hailing pick-up facilities. In a statement released by the airport, the message was that users of the new e-hailing pick-up waiting area will benefit from facility enhancements and operational improvements designed to make passenger arrivals smoother, faster and more convenient.
e-hailing pick-up – what’s new?
Under the new system, implemented on 4th August 2026, passengers using e-hailing pick-up services at Level 1 in the Main Terminal Building will benefit from a more organised and efficient pick-up experience. The new area features a License Plate Recognition (LPR) system integrated with a Passenger Information Display System (PIDS), dedicated passenger waiting lounges and structured pick-up bays. Self-service kiosks and on-ground marshals are available to assist passengers and facilitate traffic flow.
The improvements are part of KLIA’s ongoing efforts to enhance passenger experience, optimise traffic movement and improve operational efficiency. The initiative was developed following engagement sessions with e-hailing operators and in coordination with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), in line with the National Airport Facilitation Working Committee’s (NAFWC) recommendations.
To reach level 1 from Arrivals on Level 3, you can use the lifts, or escalators at each end of the floor. Make sure you use the correct lifts (C, D, G and H), they are clearly labelled for the pick-up area on the lifts on one side, with the other side dedicated for ERL passengers. Likewise at level 2, you must choose the correct set of down escalators to reach the correct side. They are clearly sign-boarded.

There is a cost attached
The enhanced e-hailing system will strengthen monitoring and access control, while helping to deter illegal e-hailing activities and ensuring that only authorised e-hailing vehicles utilise the dedicated pick-up facilities. However, this new system does not come free. To sustain the continued operation and maintenance of these enhanced facilities and systems, an entry fee of RM3.00 will be introduced for every e-hailing vehicle entering the designated passenger pick-up area at Level 1, Terminal 1 from 4th August 2026. This will most likely be passed on, although we have yet to get confirmation.
Make sure you’re on time for your pick-up
As part of the operational improvements, e-hailing vehicles will continue to be allocated a maximum of 10 minutes at the kerbside pick-up area. However, with screens showing your allocated door number and the car number, this should be more than sufficient to ensure you don’t incur the driver a penalty. Vehicles exceeding the 10 minutes duration will be subject to the applicable penalty charges, introduced to ensure smoother traffic circulation, greater availability of pick-up bays and a more efficient passenger pick-up experience for travellers.

…. A great airport experience doesn’t end at the terminal. It continues throughout the passenger journey, where every touchpoint matters. We appreciate the continued support and collaboration of our e-hailing partners in delivering a more seamless, organised and reliable first mile and last mile travel experience.Abd Hasman Abd Muhimin, Senior General Manager for Passenger Experience at KLIA
