You’ll soon be able to fly to Shanghai and Sydney direct from Kuala Lumpur with Batik Air Malaysia, which is strengthening its international network by introducing new direct services to two of its key global markets, China and Australia.  This announcement supports sustained travel demand as Malaysia revs up their offerings for Visit Malaysia Year 2026.

Shanghai has lots of unexpected surprises.

The China Market

The inaugural flight for the Kuala Lumpur-Shanghai service is expected to take off on 23rd June 2026, marking a significant milestone in Batik Air’s network expansion into China, complementing existing services to Changsha, Chengdu, Guangzhou, Kunming, Xiamen, and Zhengzhou. The route will be operated by Boeing 737 aircraft, further reinforcing connectivity between Kuala Lumpur and one of the Asia-Pacific region’s key economic and tourism centres.
Shanghai is a global metropolis where heritage meets innovation, defined by the historic The Bund and the futuristic skyline of Pudong, vibrant districts like the Former French Concession and Nanjing Road highlighting the city’s cultural depth and dynamic lifestyle. All-in one-way fares start from RM399 for Economy Class and RM1,679 for Business Class.

The Australian Market

In parallel with its expansion into China, Batik Air is strengthening its presence in Australia with the introduction of a direct Kuala Lumpur–Sydney service commencing 1st July 2026. This service will be operated using the airline’s Airbus A330 aircraft for enhanced capacity and comfort on this long-haul route. Batik Air currently serves Australia through Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth, and Sydney via Denpasar, alongside 14 weekly direct Kuala Lumpur–Perth flights. The new non-stop Sydney service, operating seven times weekly, complements existing operations and further strengthens connectivity within one of the airline’s key international markets.

Sydney, Australia’s largest city and a leading international gateway, combines natural attractions with urban appeal. Iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge, along with destinations like Darling Harbour and Bondi Beach, support its global recognition. As a key commercial and financial centre and primary entry point into Australia, Sydney plays a vital role in regional and long-haul travel networks. Pick up an all-in one-way ticket starting from RM749 for Economy Class and RM4,069 for Business Class.

Improved connectivity and ongoing travel facilitation, including visa-free access for Malaysian travellers to China for short stays, continue to support increased mobility and accessibility between the two countries. In a similar manner, Australia maintains strong bilateral travel flows, driven by tourism, business, and Visiting Friends and Relatives (VFR) segments.
