Travelling to or through the Middle East? Malaysia Airports’ Travel Advisory

In view of the evolving situation in the Middle East, a Malaysia Airports travel advisory has been issued to assist passengers travelling to or through the region.  A number of countries in the region have closed their airspace and flights have been cancelled. Malaysia Airports has issued the following Travel Advisory for the benefit of affected travellers.

Malaysia Airports TRAVEL ADVISORY

…. Airspace restrictions affecting several Middle East routes may result in delays, rerouting or cancellations. Passengers travelling to, from or transiting through affected destinations are advised to check directly with their airline before proceeding to the airport. Even where flights continue to operate, schedules and routing may change at short notice. Travellers connecting via alternative transit points should also verify the status of their entire journey, including onward sectors. For passenger rights information, refer to the Malaysian Aviation Consumer Protection Code under CAAM. Official travel advisories are available from Wisma Putra. Safety remains our highest priority.

Batik Air has issued a Precautionary Advisory for intending travellers, which may be accessed HERE. If you are a traveller check the status of your flight before leaving for the airport.

Malaysia Airlines has also issued a statement advising of cancellations of services to Doha, Jeddah and Madinah, which have been taken as a precautionary measure. Today’s (28th February) flights to Doha and Qatar which were in the way, were turned back.

In a statement, the airline said affected passengers are being notified and assisted with alternative travel arrangements where required. They also confirmed that affected passengers will be notified and advised them to update their contact details via ‘My Booking’ for updates. Assistance is also available via Live Chat on the website, or by contacting the Malaysia Airlines Global Contact Centre at 1 300 88 3000 (within Malaysia) or +603 7843 3000 (outside Malaysia).

Flights MH4 from Kuala Lumpur to London Heathrow and MH20 from Kuala Lumpur to Paris Charles de Gaulle remain on schedule, as these services follow a different flight path.

AirAsia does not currently fly to the Middle East and has not released any Travel Advisory.
