Singapore Airlines (SIA) and Malaysia Airlines  Berhad (MAB) have formalised a strategic joint business partnership, following regulatory approvals in Singapore and Malaysia, paving the way for more efficient collaboration and offering passengers greater flexibility when travelling between Singapore and Malaysia. This makes good business sense as the Kuala Lumpur (KUL) – Singapore Changi route (SIN) was the world’s third busiest International route with 5,574,409 annually in 2025.

Joint business partnership offers many advantages

The signing of the formalisation follows the approval by the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore in July 2025 and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia’s (CAAM) approval in January 2026. This will allow the progressive rollout of potential initiatives including revenue sharing flights between the two countries and coordinated flight schedules making it easier to offer joint corporate travel arrangements and other joint fare products and  across both markets. The collaboration strengthens both carriers’ operations and delivers enhanced value to customers across the combined networks, as well as reinforcing the long-standing and deep people‑to‑people and trade links between Singapore and Malaysia, supporting economic growth and connectivity that will benefit both nations.

Captain Izham bin Ismail, Group Managing Director, Malaysia Aviation Group, said that the formalisation of the strategic joint business partnership with Singapore Airlines represents a step in advancing the Group’s Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 and positioning Malaysia Airlines for its next phase of growth.

….This collaboration brings together complementary frequencies and aligned schedules, enabling deeper connectivity between Malaysia and Singapore. Over time, it reinforces Malaysia Airlines’ competitive position by enhancing scale, relevance, and network resilience across key markets.

His comments were echoed by Singapore Airlines Chief Executive Officer, Goh Choon Phong, who added:

…. I would like to thank the authorities in both Singapore and Malaysia, whose approvals pave the way for this deeper strategic partnership between Singapore Airlines and Malaysia Airlines. …. This also reinforces the long-standing and deep people-to-people and trade links between Singapore and Malaysia, supporting economic growth and connectivity that will benefit both nations.

Since signing their agreement in October 2019, both Airline Groups have progressively expanded their codeshare arrangements. Today, SIA codeshares on Malaysia Airlines’ services between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore, London (Heathrow), and 15 domestic destinations within Malaysia. MAB codeshares on SIA’s services between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur and Penang in Malaysia, as well as between Singapore and Barcelona, Brussels, Cape Town, Copenhagen, Istanbul, Johannesburg, London (Heathrow), Rome, and Zurich.

These domestic destinations, Alor Setar, Bintulu, Johor Bahru, Kota Bharu, Kota Kinabalu, Kuantan, Kuching, Labuan, Langkawi, Miri, Penang, Sibu, Sandakan, Kuala Terengganu, and Tawau make it possible for Singapore Airlines customers to more easily visit destinations across Malaysia on one booking. Bothe airlines offer various booking options, including through the Singapore Airlines website and the Malaysia Airlines website.
