After yet again another KLIA Aerotrain service disruption early on the morning of 28th October, Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has issued a statement stating that service was disrupted by a power-supply malfunction. This came after multiple users posted their complaints on social media, with photographs and videos showing travellers walking along the track-side platform in the dark. This is the second such incident related to the power system which also caused the Aerotrain service downtime on 15th October. Maintenance and repair of the power system is the responsibility of the contractors IJM-PESTEC Joint Venture (IPJV).

The Ministry of Transport has directed the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to open an investigation paper against Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) as the operator of the service. In the statement, the Transport Minister Anthony Loke said that during the initial stage of Aerotrain operations, Ministry recognised that MAHB needed time to adapt as the service was in the initial adaptation phase. However, since the Aerotrain service has now been operating for several months, the Ministry through APAD will take strict action against MAHB for every incident of service disruption that occurs.

The operator’s license issued to MAHB stipulates that the company must ensure a satisfactory level of KLIA Aerotrain service to users and under the Land Public Transport Act 2010, violations of the operator’s license conditions can be subject to a compound of up to RM250,000 for each offence. MAHB noted that Alstom, the project lead for the Aerotrain project and IPJV are expected to provide a detailed report and clarification regarding the two incidents. The spokesman also noted that operations at KLIA remained fully functional during the critical period of the just concluded ASEAN Summit, as 530,000 passenger movements and 3,400 flights were recorded during the 47th Asean Summit and Related Summits.

MAHB assured travellers that proactive measures have been activated to mitigate any impact, including deploying dedicated resources and stationing the Aerotrain contractors on-site around the clock to facilitate seamless passenger movements.

…. Malaysia Airports continues to work closely with the Ministry of Transport (MOT) and the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD) to ensure corrective actions are implemented without delay.

KLIA Airtrain services resumed on 1st July 2025 after a two year wait as extensive works were done to update and upgrade the service which connects the Main Terminal of KLIA T1 to the Satellite building in 2 minutes.
